People with diabetes can expect to live life to its fullest. The more people know about diabetes the healthier
they can be.

OUR GOAL
To provide education to people with diabetes empowering them to live a healthy life. We offer a variety of programs to meet your needs.

Learning to Manage Diabetes
Three 2.5 hour classes that include:

  • Understanding diabetes
  • Healthy eating including weight loss and heart health.
  • Carbohydrate counting
  • Diabetes pills and insulin
  • Blood sugar testing
  • Managing high and low blood sugar
  • Preventing long-term complications, including heart disease
  • Managing stress
  • Goal setting

  • Stress Management
  • Relaxation Techniques
  • Heart Healthy Eating

Individual Assessment
Consultations with the diabetes nurse educator and dietitian are offered to design a personal diabetes management plan.

Follow-Up
Individual follow-up appointments are offered as needed.

Annual Follow-Up
A group session to update and review diabetes management is offered on an annual basis.

Gestational Diabetes
Assessment and follow-up visits are provided to assist the expectant mother with diabetes.

Insulin Starts
At the request of the family physician or specialist, persons with diabetes are started on insulin.

Diabetes Prevention
A 1.5 hour class is offered to persons with impaired glucose tolerance or history of gestational diabetes to provide information needed to prevent or delay diabetes.

Evening appointments and classes are available.

Diabetes Community Drop-In
Held monthly, everyone welcome!

Type 1 Diabetes Contact Group
Offered two times a year (evenings). A unique opportunity to meet with others with type 1 diabetes. Guest speakers invited.

Shop Smart Tour for People with Diabetes
Offered monthly at Save On Foods, a registered dietitian will guide you in reading labels and making food choices to help you manage your diabetes.

We encourage you to bring a family member or friend with you to any of these appointments or classes.
