Maternity Unit

The Peace Arch Hospital Maternity Unit provides family-centered maternity care for families in the White Rock and surrounding areas. Between 750 and 800 babies are born at Peace Arch each year. The unit is well known for the caring manner in which we welcome babies into the world.

Peace Arch Maternity Unit offers emergency and inpatient hospital care as well as outpatient services. Medical staff includes 4 specialist Obstetricians and a group practice of 6 Family Physicians. Pediatric coverage is provided by a group of specialists on a rotating call schedule. All the medical staff involved in providing maternal intra- and postpartum care at PAH are enthusiastic and committed to providing this service for their patients. Peace Arch currently has 7 inpatient beds, two birthing suites, one high risk/OR delivery room and a labour/triage/assessment room, as well as a fetal monitoring outpatient program. There is a designated newborn nursery with state of the art equipment that is used episodically, dependent on need.

The perinatal services provided by PAH and its nursing and medical staff cover a wide spectrum including prenatal education, regular antenatal care (at the Family Practice Maternity Clinic) with the associated standard laboratory testing, intra-partum care including caesarean section capability, postpartum care and breastfeeding support service. With expected hospital stays of 1-3 days, Community health nursing is available to see women in their homes after discharge.
