The Nuclear Medicine imaging specialty uses safe, painless and cost effective techniques to image the body systems and treat disease. Nuclear Medicine is unique because it provides information about both structure and function. The Nuclear Medicine technologist administers Radioactive Pharmaceuticals to patients and image the characteristics and function of tissue and/or organs in which the pharmaceuticals localize. The most routine procedures performed are MPI scans (Myocardial Perfusion Imaging) to rule out coronary artery disease and Bone scans used for imaging a variety of conditions pertaining to bone.
