The Respiratory Therapist is a health professional with specialized training in the cardio-respiratory system. Therapists work closely with physicians and other health care members to provide a range of care to patients with cardio-respiratory problems, most often in acute care facilities. Therapists are involved with patient care including; resuscitation, ventilation, oxygen therapy, aerosol medication delivery and teaching for home discharge. Diagnostic evaluations such as; arterial blood gasses, pulmonary function testing and oximetries are performed by respiratory therapists.
