"Friends in Art" support Peace Arch Hospital

White Rock, BC – Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation is pleased to receive a donation of $862 from the “Friends in Art” group art exhibition held November 13 & 14.

Friends in Art is a collaboration of White Rock and Surrey artists, including featured artwork from Nicole Carrie, Jean Chose, Debra Gow, Bette Hurd, Karen Marchand, Jess Rice, Cheryl Roller, Annie Tsai and Dehai Wang.  Each artist donated one painting to be raffled off at the show, with proceeds benefiting Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation’s $5.3-million campaign to build a new maternity ward at Peace Arch Hospital.  “The Foundation truly appreciates the support of the Friends in Art Fundraiser – it is a heart-warming example of how we are all Partners in Caring” noted the Foundation’s Executive Director, Jackie Smith.

Maternity care at Peace Arch Hospital is moving to a family-centered model in which the birthing experience will take place in a private, spacious (400 ft²), single-family room. The new space will accommodate eight single birthing suites, almost three times the current birthing capacity and 50 per cent more space.

Nearly 800 babies are born at Peace Arch Hospital every year. The current ward is at capacity. When the ward is full, expecting families can be sent as far away as Richmond and Burnaby to deliver their babies. With the help of the community and events like “Friends in Art”, that will soon change.

Donations in support of the new Maternity Ward can be made by visiting www.peacearchhospital.com or by calling Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation at 604.535.4520.

The campaign is one of five priority projects being funded through the $32-million Partners in Caring Campaign.
