Rotary Club of White Rock Pledges $250,000 to Center for Active Living
Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation is pleased to announce a donation of $250,000 from the membership of the Rotary Club of White Rock. The funds are being directed to the Centre for Active Living, one of five priority projects within the Foundation’s $32 million Partners in Caring Campaign.
An expansion of the Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation program, the Centre for Active Living will directly benefit people with chronic illness such as diabetes, arthritis, and congestive heart failure. Its aim is to slow the progression of chronic disease and to expedite recovery and improve outcomes after surgery. The 18,000 sq. ft Centre will be located at Centennial Park in White Rock and will include two new fitness rooms, two exercise studios and an education room.
Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation, with the help from community partners like the Rotary Club of White Rock, is currently raising funds towards this $6.5 million project. The Rotary membership through countless volunteer hours raises significant dollars every year that are directed to organizations like the Peace Arch Hospital.
The Rotary Club of White Rock is the longest standing community service group on the Peninsula, serving White Rock/South Surrey with humanitarian projects for 55 years. “We are so very proud to contribute to the health of our community, enriching the lives of our citizens,” says Christine Fortin, Director of Community Service, Rotary Club of White Rock.
“We are very grateful for all the support the Rotary Club of White Rock membership has given to our Foundation to support health care in our community of White Rock, over the past several years. They are an incredibly dedicated group of individuals who by making this gift have committed to giving thousands of people an opportunity to live better and healthier lives through access to this one-of-a-kind facility,” says Jackie Smith, Executive Director of Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation.
The Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation has committed to raising $4.4 million towards the total Project cost of $6.5 million; to date $3.28 million of that amount has been raised. The Centre for Active Living is under construction with completion anticipated for December 2010.
