Drs Rachel Bright (r) and Sheena Goldie present Yuan Yuan and Billy Yan with a gift from
PAH's maternity doctors.
Phase One Now Open:
First baby is born in Foundation-funded new maternity ward
The honour went to Benjamin Yan, who arrived at 6 o'clock in the evening on July 26th, 2010. He is the first baby delivered in a new birthing room at Peace Arch Hospital. Benjamin and his parents, Billy Yan and Yuan Yuan, who is a nurse at Peace Arch Hospital, received a deluxe basket of gifts, valued at more than $2,500, assembled by the hospital's 10 maternity doctors.
Phase one of the new maternity ward has been completed on time and on budget. This phase includes four of eight single-family birthing rooms and the Thrifty Foods Education Room. The remaining four birthing rooms and the balance of the ward are scheduled to open in December 2010.
The funds to re-build the maternity ward are all donated by the community. To date, the OH BABY appeal has raised $4.25 million of its $5.3 million goal, with the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society making a lead gift of $1 million. The final push is on. This is a generous community and the appeal is close to the hearts of both families and organizations. The Foundation is confident the remaining funds will be secured by December 2010 in time to celebrate the opening of the new ward.
